Are you looking to support the Austin Metropolitan Area Regional Science and Engineering Fair? If so, Ingrid Weigand is the person to contact. This competition is affiliated with the Society and is one of the largest regional science fairs in Texas, with nearly 3,000 students from third to twelfth grade. It is the only regional science fair in Texas that includes contests for elementary students as a way to encourage early interest in science. Sponsoring the fair includes a static logo on the website, a sponsored post on Round Rock MPC's social networks, one in-person brand activation per year, and one day (up to eight hours) of use of the conference room. Additionally, the fair awards scholarships to Texas 4-H, FFA and FCCLA students who won or participated in specific juvenile cattle contests held during the Texas State Fair. The Benny Clark Memorial Scholarship is also available for high school seniors from across the state of Texas who have participated in competitive youth ranching events held at the State Fair.
Eligible seasonal staff are those who have completed at least three years of seasonal employment as of January 1 of the year in which the scholarship will be awarded and who worked an average of 20 hours a week during the previous fair. The Peggy Sloan Memorial Scholarship is available for seniors from six high schools in the Dallas Independent School District in the Fair Park area, and temporary employees of the Texas State Fair or their dependents. Eligible beneficiaries must enroll in a natural science curriculum related to agriculture or that benefits agriculture at a Texas college or university. The Texas State Fair celebrates everything related to Texans by promoting agriculture, education, and community participation through quality entertainment in a family environment. Terry Griffin was an important part of the board of directors and executive committee of the Texas State Fair and was instrumental in developing its youth scholarship program.
